Why do most fragrances fade by lunch? Perfume sprays usually contain alcohol. As the alcohol evaporates, it carries the scent outward with it, helping the fragrance spread into the air. That strong opening is noticeable, but a few hours later much less of the fragrance may remain on the skin. An attar does the opposite.
